A most enjoyable Yom Tov

5.0/ 5

It was our first time at Midwest Passover, and we enjoyed it tremendously. The people were friendly and outgoing, the food and service outstanding, the speakers all motivating and interesting.. All our requests were met immediately, and with a smile. Yasher koach and many thanks to Rabbi and Rebbetzin Kushner and everyone else who organized and led this program – l’shanah haba’ah b’Yerushalayim!

Each year the Midwest Pesach program of Aguda keeps getting better & better

5.0/ 5

This was our fourth year at the Midwest Aguda Pesach program in Aurora, OH. I posted a review after attending each year we attended the program and tried to point out new things we experienced. As usual the food this year was both delicious and plentiful and the activities within our hotel, The Bertram Inn, were varied, interesting and met needs of attendees at all age levels. And the sites available to visit in the Cleveland area are first class. As usual the planning of Rabbi Kushner and his staff was amazing in its detail. During chol hamoed we visited the famous Frank Lloyd house called Falling Water in Mill Run, PA. It was a 3 hour ride from the hotel which required buying tickets for the tour that would allow us to have breakfast before leaving the hotel, pack a box lunch to take along and return to the hotel in time for dinner. It was all worth it as Falling Water is one of the gems of architectural works in America. On the last day of chol hamoed we toured the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland, OH. This was a beautiful natural world of preserved flora and was less than 30 minutes from our hotel. This year, in addition to all of those things cited above, one in our party experienced a medical emergency during chol hamoed. Rabbi Kushner directed us to a nearby urgent care center where the nurse practitioner suggested that her facility had limited ability to determine the cause of the problem. She suggested we go to a satellite emergency room of the world renowned Cleveland Clinic which was just a mile away in the nearby suburb of Twinsburg, Ohio which we did. It took most of the day to get tested and to get the results of these tests at the Cleveland Clinic. We returned to The Bertram Inn just before mincha time , erev the last days of the chag. Rabbi Kushner met us as we returned to the program and the first thing he asked was, “What do you need and how can I help?” We had some limiting restrictions and Rabbi Kushner immediately accommodated our needs. Others in the hotel who had heard of our problem were concerned and also offered help. Fortunately, in the end our problems were resolved. Our return to the hotel and to the program was like coming home. The management of the program, the staff as well as our fellow comrades from the program became our welcoming extended family. We are grateful to Hashem for the positive medical results and to Rabbi Kushner, his crew and to all of the guests in our extended family for making our Pesach experience a blessing of happiness and freedom. Thank you for making my Pesach so special. Everything was well organized and everyone was so friendly. The staff went out of their way to make everything special. The food was very good. The only comment I have is there was sooo much food, I would have liked more vegetables an salads served with the meal. I have a difficult time caring salads.

5.0/ 5

This is our third year attending the Agudas Achim Pesach program. Being together with so many uplifting people is a highlight–Rabbi Kushner sets the tone with his warmth, sense of humor, and ability to focus on individuals and their needs. His sincere caring about each and every person shines through and he led the beautiful uplifting davening. Rabbi Sheinbaum is a Talmud Chacham who gave over hartzig, Divrei Torah. with important messages for today. Rabbi Kielski worked tirelessly as the mashgiach along with other responsibilities and he always had a smile along with his easy-going nature. All of these Rabbonims special wives and families added so much to atmosphere as well. The food was delicious and I could feel that the chef put much care and feeling into whatever he made. The activities which included a fun martial arts exercise class, swimming, mezuzzah cover making and more was very enjoyable and in line with the ruchnius atmosphere. We met many nice, down to earth people; It was a zchus for us to once again be a part of this super special program.

A Great Program for a Reasonable Price

5.0/ 5

Being our first Program, my kids and I (I am a widower) didn’t know what to expect. We arrived to professional staff, who immediately accommodated my request for an additional room for my daughter, as I had failed to adequately plan. The welcome bag contained the entire schedule, as well as door magnets for Yom Tov and Shabbos as well as a switch cover. Services were set up in and area that was both spacious, and with appropriate separation for any hashkofah. Sedarim were held in both a large dining Hall, with each table conducting their own Seder communally, or, upon request, there were private rooms available for larger Families or individual groups to have a more intimate setting.. Food was plentiful, with no problems getting seconds for the really large eaters. Vegetable portions were a bit small, but all the proteins were overabundant. Some of the desserts were to be expected (pareve ice cream, etc.) but some were outstanding (chocolate or vanilla lava cake with cherries). All was non-Gebrochts. The Kiddushes were absolutely amazing, with salmon, herring varieties, kugels, short ribs and flanken, pepper steak, deli, wines, liquors and cordials, wings, poppers, cakes, fruit, ect, ect.. The downside was that it was that due to the layout of the facility, it was in an adjoining building, so required a bit of a walk (not too bad). But it wasn’t to be missed. The Dining room Staff was OUTSTANDING, quickly catering to every whim and request. While there was a bit of a language barrier with the New York Crew, there were enough bilingual staff to make sure every request was fulfilled quickly. When it comes to the rooms, they were adequate, but the facility is definitely dated. The sheets, towels, and blankets were all fresh and stain free, and the mattresses were extremely comfortable, but the wallpaper and decor could use an overhaul. However, for the price of the program, that was one tradeoff I was glad to make.. The activities were varied and quite numerous. There were loads of activities for the many youngerliet that were there, from a constantly running bouncehouse to magic shows and story time. For the teens it was a bit sparser, but still there was separated swimming days, sports, crafts, shiurim for young and old, a reading room, as well as a 24/7 snack/tea room. The adults had everything from Shiurim to discussion groups, Daily Tehillim for our Hostages, a Game room, and may othe activities. What I found particularly interesting was a series of Shidduchim discussions and a couple of events set up for singles. All in all, it was a meaningful, fun time. We made some good friends, had some Good times, and will, Bli neder be back next year. For what we received, and the value we got, it was money well spent anddidn’t break the bank.

First time guests but we will return

5.0/ 5

My family of 22 (wife, kids (4 couples), grandkids) just completed our first experience with the Midwest Pesach program (2024). This was our sixth program since 2018. The hotel: The Betram Inn and Conference Center has started to show its age. However, the 9 rooms we had were clean, roomy and comfortable. Wife and I obviously had the most experience with our own room which was clean, supplied with the standard basics, frig, full bath (ceramic tub/shower head without grab bars – not good for the two of us in the second half of our 70s). Outside the full bath was a second sink and counter which was very nice to have. The room also contained a full couch. The program: Daf Yomi and other shiurim were provided in the ample shul along with other learning opportunities for those in the diverse group of over 300 attendees (I think) so inclined. I found the speakers very engaging and topical. There were several playrooms each set up for different age groups. The outside, larger parking lot area was supplied with basketball nets, soccer balls and a tether ball pole. Inside, a centrally located area was provided with a large, blow up bounce castle. I never saw it vacant, day or night. Our 12 grandchildren (ages 5-16) made use of all those play resources plus all the toys and games we brought along. There were several shows (e.g. magician, ventriloquist, music and more. I did not happen to attend any but the reviews among my family members were good to excellent.) Guests: On average, an older crowd of typically yeshivish backgrounds and persuasions. However, there were also plenty of younger families with children ranging from babies to early 20’s. If it helps, there were a number of women without head coverings and even a few in pants during the more relaxed times of the holiday. If anyone was uncomfortable about the mix, I did not see it. The staff: Rabbi A. J. Kushner, the program director/host and quite chasidisch in appearance was an absolute delight. His management style was competent and his humor, infectious. He worked the crowd in a most friendly manner all while seemingly everywhere at once, making sure we all had what we needed. I don’t think the man slept more than a couple of hours each day. As already said, the rabbinical staff was quite engaging and most approachable. The wait and other staff too were friendly and most eager to serve the crowd, one which can be typically demanding. Clearly everyone working understood the requirements of a “service” industry. Meals: Breakfasts were exactly what you would expect from a Pesach program. There was an abundance of hot and cold beverages along with various cheeses, and salads. On days permitted there were 3 omelet stations making the hot eggs to order with a variety of additions as requested. Kids were supplied with a variety of cold cereals, milks and juices. And of course, plentiful matzah and various pastries as can be made on Pesach. Breakfasts were offered from 8-11 spanning the needs of early birds, minyan goers and late risers. Lunches and dinners were typically fish, meat and poultry based with starters on through some pretty good and fancy desserts. Various wines, soft drinks and bottled water were plentiful. The recipes were heimish but not very diverse. Things did start to get a bit boring albeit remaining plentiful, tasty and with enough variety on each course to satisfy the most-picky of eaters. For example: starters consisted of a slice of gefilte fish and salmon on a bed of salad, soup for some meals, and mains consisting of both a heaping portion of meat and chicken on the plate along with basic sides. On Shabbos and Yom Tov light early dinners were offered along with the heavier post-davening larger, late evening meals. Before lunch, substantial kiddushes with both hot and cold offerings of meats, fish, kugals, salads, pastries etc. along with an attended bar (such as is possible on Pesach) were provided. A 7/24 tearoom was also available with adult and child offerings. No one went hungry and unless you displayed extraordinary self-control, you concluded the program heavier than when you arrived. We all agreed, this is a real keeper for our future Pesachs!

An Absolute Joy

5.0/ 5

We had the pleasure of enjoying our 2024 Passover at the Midwest Pesach Program with our extended family.  In short, this is the best “bang for your buck” experience we have yet had from a Pesach program. The accommodations were large, comfortable, and clean.  The hotel is spacious with numerous rooms, nooks, and crannies, that allow engagement in individual or group activities.  It is not the newest in accommodations, but the large space and hotel staff responsiveness certainly make up for not having the most up-to-date bells and whistles.  The area seems to be very affluent, and there were no concerns over safety in the environment.  There are many big-box shopping stores and pharmacies in the immediate area that make picking up those “forgotten at home” items an easy task.  It is a quiet suburban area with little outside ambient noise.   The food was plentiful and tasty, with approximately five daily meals.  And sometimes more.  The tea room was always stocked with an assortment of snacks, healthy and junk, with catering available at almost anytime to provide a wanted item from the kitchen.  We experienced an excellent service team that was flexible and made our sedars and meals an enjoyable experience.  The assortment of wines was more than sufficient, and there was a very well stocked bar during all yom tov kiddush. While the program is open about its no frills line-up of programming, it sells itself short.  The speakers were all enjoyable and personable, and the music was varied and lively.  We certainly enjoyed the performance and friendship of the great David Ross of Shir Soul Music.  There was also a variety of kids shows and performances to keep the little ones engaged. The guests were a diverse and entertaining mix of individuals – Orthodox Jews of every denomination, from modern to chasidic, from ashkenaz to sefard, from east coast to west.  Even an impeccably dressed bald-headed fellow that wore bright outfits of all colors and kept the guests entertained and guessing at all meals. The crowd was very friendly and people generally got along well with each other.  We were fortunate to make new friends, and rediscover old.   Last, but certainly not least, were our great hosts – AJ “Yoely” Kushner (and his family) and Mindy.  They were easy to work with, spirited, friendly, accommodating, and very accessible.  We highly recommend this program for anyone looking for a relaxing and laid-back Pesach.

Exceptional, Unforgettable, and Enriching

5.0/ 5

My husband found the Midwest Passover Program online and was initially impressed with the inexpensive price compared to the other programs. But, it was our phone conversations with the incredibly charismatic and welcoming Rabbi Kushner that sealed the deal for us. And yet, we were still not prepared for the exceptional, unforgettable, enriching 10 days that we experienced. Although there was so much that made this Pesach unforgettable for us, there are three factors that stand out: The food; the other participants, especially our tablemates; and, above all, Rabbi Kushner. We have to start with the food, which was delicious, varied, and plentiful – not to mention that we had up to five meals a day with 5-6 wine choices at every dinner meal, actual cocktails at Kiddush, and unbelievable Chol Hamoed breakfasts with omelets, pancakes, “French toast,” and smoothies that would have been delicious even if they weren’t prepared for Pesach. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. We are especially grateful to Leah for seating us with other couples with whom we had the most wonderful conversations and who truly impacted our lives with their life stories and their shared knowledge and wisdom. We already look forward to hopefully seeing them (as well as others whom we met) again next year. But above all is Rabbi A.J. Kushner. As the reader can see from almost every review, this Rabbi is a true “Superstar.” There aren’t enough adjectives to express how much he did to make this Pesach experience so meaningful for us. And everyone we spoke to had their own story about how Rabbi Kushner went out of his way to provide a special, personal experience for each of them. We cannot imagine any other Pesach program at even twice the price that could have provided us a more positive, memorable experience. No matter what any other program has to offer, no other program has Rabbi Kushner. I would also like to commend the wait staff, who worked long hours, but were always friendly and accommodating. No matter what was asked of them and no matter how busy they were, they always responded quickly AND with a smile.

Wonderful affordable program!

4.0/ 5

We came from Sunday, Chol Hamoed till shabbat after Pesach 2023. The welcome bag was a warm touch to the wonderful program. Leah was exceptional in trying to meet our medical diet restriction and accomodations. Breakfasts & grab a lunch during chol hamoed was amazing . The Yom Tov food was ample and tasteful, however my personal preference would be to offer undressed salads and sugarless meat & chicken sauces of a meditterean kind of cuisine. I was able to request and get plain salads with avocado and lemon/oil side dressing . I enjoyed the warm atmosphere and met wonderful people. I enjoyed the paint night, swim day & shlissel challah prep was so special. The hotel was of classy decor, rooms spacious and clean but the main bathroom, tearoom, hallways and stairways were left dirty from the children’s food debris. Hotel was short on cleaning staff. My family enjoyed it immensely and would consider coming BACK bh.

There are truly not enough words, I can say about this Pesach program. Me and my kids had such an amazing time. We have never been to one before and feel truly blessed to have been at this one. Rabbi Kushner, his family and everyone that was part of this program was wonderful. It was so wonderful that they accommodated what we wanted, one Seder with the group and one just our family. It was so special. The food was beyond delicious and always soooo much. Everything was always decorated so lovely too. The magic shows were so much fun. It felt like camp, the first couple days, everyone was friendly and by the end, we didn’t want to leave, as we made such special connections with so many. Rabbi Kushner, your family and everyone involved, you should be so proud of what you all did. It truly was a dream come true for us to be at your Pesach program. We hope to stay connected with all our new friends and hope IYH to come back next year. Thank you for giving us an experience we will never forget!!

Devorah, Leah, Rabbi Kushner and the rest of the staff ensured that we all were comfortable and happy. The elegant decor at each and every kiddush and meal, added so much to the time spent. The hotel was a very good setting with all of the parts of the venue, conducive to the many aspects of the daily schedule. The company was lovely with everyone extremely friendly. The organization and responsiveness at the time our reservations were being made was first rate. Passover program

4.0/ 5

I enjoyed the program. It was improved over 2022 with addition of more speakers and daily activities. I disliked the way davening was set up. I and other women could not hear all of the services. I also thought that the room used was not a good fit. I could not see anything except for the open doorway a screen. I did not know when laining began and could not see the ark being opened etc… There was too much wasted food. The pieces of chicken, meat and sizes of fish entrees should have been smaller. The cooking staff should have cut the pieces of the above in half before placing them on the buffet tables. There was no way to take a small serving and I personally left parts of meals unfinished because I could not eat such large pieces of chicken etc…. The food was good. I found enough activities to participate in and also enough “down” time to just visit with friends or just read a book. I have no further ideas to share or suggestions for future programs My problems with the program reflect the venue more than the program itself. The Bertram Inn is convenient but it needs a lot of updates. I will address those issues with their corporate headquarters.

Wonderful Pesach experience

5.0/ 5

This was the second year that we attended this program. The food is abundant and delicious! They have every kind of Kosher wine, Shmira Matza for every meal and the people that were in attendance were friendly and inclusive. People remembered us from last year and we remembered them. Rabbi Kuttner and Rabbi Schoenfeld were inspiring speakers and very welcoming. The activities were very well planned and the children loved the horseback riding, bounce house and painting, not to mention the magicians and swim time..

Pesach week at Bertram Inn

4.0/ 5

Our 2 Seders were wonderful. We quickly befriended our table mates & bonded all week. Food was plentiful but was not quality level we expected with too much sameness especially chol hamoed lunches. We appreciate all the hard work that went into planning the week. The kitchen/wait staff were all super friendly, efficient & accommodating. More signage, clearer explanations & communications needed for first timers. We enjoyed the evening program with band/singers during Chol Hamoed. It was a relaxing week with activities nicely spaced out. Thank you for a lovely week.

First time me and my family were away from home or family for פסח. I was a little hesitant to go ( not my family tradition). Was I wrong! Great family atmosphere, laid back, great food, great people and great activities for the kids. We will definitely be back. ( Only down side was, that Rabbi AJ Kushner worked nonstop. Would love to see him sit back and relax a little more)

First rate Pesach program

5.0/ 5

The food at this program was not only good quality and delicious it was abundantly plentiful. In addition the 24 hour tea room made snacking if desired always available. The facility was a grand resort hotel with beautiful grounds which included an eruv. While the hotel was a bit shopworn it was elegant, the rooms were spacious and meeting, dining areas and davening places were very comfortable. Various shiurim were held including daf yomi and programs such as short videos of interest for families. Some of the shiurim were given by volunteers who were guests who offered their expertise on subjects of interest. The facility had meeting rooms in the main building as well as in a spacious annex. Grand kiddush was held in the annex where a large collection of kosher l’Pesach cordials, wines and other alcoholic beverages were available as well as soft drinks. Fish, mezonos and other goodies made the kiddush cheery and bright. When the weather allowed the guests could eat outside at tables on the grounds adjacent to the annex. Everyone had a chance to enjoy and socialize. The davvening and laining were excellent. Rabbi Shainbaum delivered succinct drashas. He made his points but never belabored them. One of the best features of this program were the guests themselves. The guests made every effort to be helpful to others attending the program. I noticed repeated offers from guest to help the elderly or handicapped. They called it Midwest hospitality. And we found the children respectful of others. Of course the program planners made accommodations for the needs of children by providing them with a bounce house in addition to the various snacks that were always available. During chal hamoed we visited world class attractions in the Cleveland area. The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the finest. Others visited the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame or the Museum of Fashion at Kent State University. Even though we found this Pesach program to be economical we felt in ranks in the top tier of experiences along with the most exotic advertised Pesach programs.

An amazing Chazan who sang at our table, we will remember his song:) I especially enjoyed the soups, deserts, fish, breakfast room, tea room, etc… The children were also entertained around the clock: moonbounce, game room, events, etc… Was such a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend to others! Incredible Yom Tov

5.0/ 5

We had an incredible Y”T! Reb Aaron Yoel and his family and staff should be g’bentched with tremendous hatzlacha and they should be able to continue running this program for many years to come in yerushalyim! My wife, kids, and I, had such a relaxed and beautiful Y”T. Everything you read in other reviews is absolutely true! This program was so well planned and had the perfect blend of ruchniyus and gashmiyus. It’s been over 2 weeks since Y”T and we’re still talking about all the memories that we will carry with us for years to come. We had my parents join us for the first days and my in-laws for second days and everyone had a great time.

The animal show and moonbounce were highlights for my grandchildren. It was so nice to spend Pesach together with my family in such a wholesome, fun and friendly atmosphere. AJ and his staff did everything they could to make everyone happy. They even arranged for swimming at a local pool. The food was delicious and , plentiful. Mon & Wed night was dairy. Tues night there was a fantastic band playing in the dining room. Mindy the secretary sent put a list with places to go and things to see in the local area You had to pack your own lunch which we ate at some of the local attractions we went to. see and of course they had the 24 hour tea room ! During dovening the Beis Midrash was very quiet. They had a daf yomi Shiur and Avos ubanim learning everyday. They also went out of their way to provide for the needs of all the kids. If you are looking for an affordable , enjoyable Pesach look no further! My rating is 4.8 .

Excellent program and organization but a few minor complaints.

4.0/ 5

Almost all aspects were splendid. Some minor complaints: 1) although the food overall was wonderful there were too many meat lunches, 2) lack of orientation signs on the outside of the building made registration somewhat difficult, 3) lack of a map of the building made navigation difficult, 4) the room we were in for the first community seder was much too noisy making the seder impossible to follow, 5) the food service for the seders was much too slow. Otherwise, organization and fine people made the experience pleasurable and meaningful.

First time with this program. Found the food delicious and plentiful. Not too fancy, but did not expect it, nor needed all the extras offered at more expensive programs. It was a wonderful experience

5.0/ 5

We joined the Agudas Achim Pesach Resort for the last days of Yom Tov, as we wanted to be with our children at their home for the Seders.. We had an excellent time at the Retreat. We were received with wonderful warmth, from the point of checking in to the departure we were surrounded by excellent service from all the people working at the hotel. The food was excellent, plentiful and delicious. The atmosphere during the Seudot was very family oriented and yet was filled with Zemirot. The feel of the Seudot was in keeping with the Shabbos and Yom Tov Spirit. And the food as mentioned was delicious and plentiful. The wait staff and all the other staff in the kitchen served us with a smile. The Davening was at a very nice serious level. There speed of davening was fine, there was hardly any noise from anyone during the davening and the Yom Tov and Shabbos Niggunim were sung with great devotion and feeling. It was actually quite surprisingly good. Rabbi Laibel Scheinbaum would give over Divrei Torah that was to the point and effective. I was impressed with how well everything moved along. I couldn’t have asked for more or better. We would definitely return next year and would strongly recommend people who are thinking of plans for next years Pesach, to investigate this particular program. It was that good, that much fun, with an excellent blend of Yiras Shamayim and Simcha’s Yom Tov/Shabbos.

We were part of a fairly large multi-generational group with such a broad range of needs and the entire staff (most notably R’ Aharon Yoel and Mrs. Devora Klugman and their respective spouses) worked tirelessly to successfully accommodate each and every individual. Wonderful davening, excellent food (quality AND quantity), and a special attention to the sensibilities of the many many children present at the program brought everything together in a truly enjoyable Pesach experience!

This was our first Pesach at a hotel. We weren’t sure what to expect. However, everything exceeded our expectations. The hotel accommodations were 1st rate; spacious, clean rooms; all venues conveniently located; friendly, helpful staff. The food was delicious, plentiful and creative. Kudos to Tibor, Ray and Aaron. The davening was inspiring with many Baalei Tefillos to choose from. Being with family and extended family created the most leibidig meals that we ever experienced. Last, but not least, this program could not have worked without the tireless efforts of Rabbi AJ Kushner, Mindi and Devora. Their focus on the needs and wants of each guest was evident from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. Next year in Yerushalayim (or 2nd best, Aurora).
