Where To Look for Kosher for Passover Recipes
Each family has their own prized recipe when it comes to cooking for Passover. For some it’s their mother’s charoset recipe, lemon meringue pie, or matzo farfel. Each of these foods transport us to when we were children in our parents’ home or beautiful memories that are created each Passover. No matter what we do, we cannot perfectly emulate the recipe that our loved ones originally made. Although, I think that is the innate beauty of it because you can feel that nostalgia each year around Pesach time and it’s truly something to look forward to. Additionally, now you can create a special Passover recipe or combination that will hopefully be loved and carried on to generations to come.
However, if you do not have a family famous recipe that is kosher for Passover. Have no fear, you can create one this year! Or better yet just go through some recipes that will be a big hit so that you can bake/cook for future Passovers to come. But it is difficult to find the perfect Passover recipe. Sometimes the recipe looks amazing, but you try it out and it tastes awful. Sometimes the measurements just seem wrong, and the food ends up flopping. It is hard to find a recipe that is amazing and works each year. But this year is different, because this year you will know where to look for recipes to ensure that you are cooking or baking the perfect Passover foods!
1. The first place to look for recipes is online. Honestly, there are wonderful recipes online that work perfectly for Passover. Either a Jewish website or a not Jewish website, most sites do write up Pesach related content. Or better yet, you can search gluten free recipes, flourless desserts, or almond flour recipes that most likely exclude flour. It is easier to search for savory recipes, than dessert recipes. But the earlier you start and write down or bookmark certain recipes and sites, the easier it’ll be when Passover arrives. Some websites that I personally love is Between Carpools, Martha Stewart, Delish, Epicurious, Jamie Geller, and Bon Appetit. There are hundreds of recipes, not just desserts, that look delicious and sure are amazing. If you are more on the picky side, you can test out these recipes before Passover to make sure they are up to par. Or better yet, read the reviews on the bottom of each recipe and see what others are saying.
2. Social Media, specifically Instagram. Around Passover time, Jewish influencers start pushing out their Passover and food related content. I have found that their recipes are amazing and some even taste like desserts that I would eat throughout the year. When I do see a dessert that I like, I either bookmark it or copy the link on the notes app on my phone. When Passover rolls around, I already have a list of all the recipes that I am making. Additionally, social media is starting to act like a search engine. You can search “Passover recipes”, “kosher for Passover recipes”, or “gluten free recipes”. Spend some time on social media, that can be anywhere from TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube and so on, and you’ll be able to find at least several recipes. You can also search Jewish influencers or influencers in the food industry and scroll through their page around late March or early April and you’ll see all the various recipes they are making. I would suggest reading the comments as well because that is where more information is or where people have tested the recipes and are providing feedback.
3. Family and friends have the best recipes that have been tried and are vetted for each year. I’m sure you realize that if a recipe is tremendously tasty, it will be made each Passover. Ask your family for their famous recipes anywhere from matzo lasagna, brisket recipes, or even matzo brei. The recipes may not be perfect or with any measurements at all, but you can either FaceTime or send pictures to make sure you’re doing everything correctly. Or the recipe may be written down on a stained and dirty index card that is incredibly hard to read. But that is part of the process and the fun of cooking for Passover! Ask your friends what they make each year, or they can ask their friends and families too. You can even open a WhatsApp chat and exchange recipes that people have tried and can attest are delectable. Jews love sharing, especially sharing recipes for food! So, ask and you shall receive.
As you can tell, finding kosher for Passover recipes that are tasty and easy to make is a labor and time intensive activity. Save yourself the headache and start searching for recipes now. So, when Passover rolls around, you already have everything down pat.
