Sukkot 2024 review
I recently returned from a wonderful Sukkot program in southern Italy, organized by the Chabad of Rome, led by Rabbi Yisrael Piha and his wife, Hana. They created a warm, family-like atmosphere, where we truly felt like one huge family enjoying the holiday together. R’ Yisrael and Hana are incredibly kind, always checking in to make sure everyone is happy. They genuinely care about each guest on the program and are available to help with whatever they can. The program was hosted at the Olimpia Cilento Resort, a beachfront property about two hours from Naples Airport and four hours by car from Rome Airport. For a quicker option, there’s a fast train from Rome that reduces travel time. The resort is clean, well-kept, and located on a beautiful stretch of beach. It offers various room sizes to accommodate different needs, as well as multiple pools and plenty of space to walk around and enjoy the grounds. The program embraces a simple, authentic European style rather than the upscale luxury of some American programs. If you’re looking for a genuine and relaxing experience with great company, this is a fantastic choice. Each day included three delicious meals. Breakfast featured a variety of cheeses, yogurts, French toast, shakshuka, pastries, and more. Lunch and dinner were primarily meat-based, with an impressive selection of salads, multiple side dishes, and main courses offering both fish and chicken/meat options. The food was fresh, expertly cooked, and absolutely delicious. A few small caveats: bug spray is essential. Shower pressure, air conditioning, and the beds are all good; however, the towels are thin and have an unusual smell. If you’re particular about towels, you may want to bring your own. The hotel offers laundry service, which was convenient—we gave a garbage bag of clothes, paid 10 euros (around $10), and everything came back clean and fresh-smelling. For families with young children, there’s a special kids’ dinner option, prepared fresh upon request. In the late afternoon, a delightful pastry table was set up, perfect for an afternoon treat. This program truly made our Sukkot experience in Italy special, combining amazing food with a beautiful setting and warm company. Highly recommend!
