As a leader in the global hospitality industry, Orlando World Center Marriott proudly announces the appointment of Eric Martinez as Executive Chef. In this role, Martinez will utilize his wealth of knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm to oversee all culinary direction and operation for the hotel including banquets, special events and daily dining in its 10 diverse, seasonally-inspired restaurants and lounges to elevate its high-quality standards to new heights. Chef Martinez began his career with Marriott in 2000 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Springs, Calif. and has demonstrated his culinary talents through a variety of roles with Marriott International including Executive Sous Chef, Director of Food & Beverage, Executive Chef and most recently Executive Sous Chef/Director of Restaurant Operations at the Four-Diamond Orlando World Center Marriott. Originally from New Orleans and a graduate of Delgado College, Martinez believes that cooking is a language that expresses harmony, innovation, happiness, beauty, poetry, complexity, magic, humor and provocation. Throughout his established history, Martinez has proven his ability to create extraordinary dishes, manage kitchens and staff, and exceed guest expectations. Since beginning his new position as Executive Chef, one of Martinez’ first tasks was to lead the charge launching the all new Central Pantry at Orlando World Center Marriott. Focusing on fast, fresh gourmet options, Martinez successfully opened this innovate grab-and-go marketplace offering chef-crafted cuisine perfect for travelers and locals alike. Whether it’s a refreshing snack to relish poolside or just a quick bite before heading out, there are unlimited options available in this unique setting, including everything from freshly prepared local food and protein shakes for the fitness traveler to a variety of coffee drinks for a morning or afternoon caffeine craving, as well as spirits, wines and beers self-served on-tap by the glass or bottle.
Rabbi Shlomo Zuckier is a PhD candidate in Ancient Judaism at Yale University, a member of Yeshiva University’s Kollel Elyon, and is teaching at Yeshiva College and Yale Divinity School this year. A Founder of The Lehrhaus, Shlomo previously served as Director of the Orthodox Union’s Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus at Yale University. Shlomo is an alumnus of Yeshivat Har Etzion and Yeshiva University as well as of the Wexner, Tikvah, and Kupietzky Kodshim Fellowships. He has lectured and taught widely across North America, and is excited to share Torah and Jewish scholarship on a broad range of issues. Shlomo serves on the Editorial Committee of Tradition, is co-editor of Torah and Western Thought: Intellectual Portraits of Orthodoxy and Modernity, and is editing the forthcoming Contemporary Uses and Forms of Hasidut.
Akiva Koenigsberg received a Bachelor of Talmudic Law from Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh in Israel and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Yeshiva University. He also received ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and continued his studies in the post-semicha kollel elyon at RIETS. Concurrently, he completed an MA in Talmud from the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies of Yeshiva University, where he is currently pursuing a PhD. Rabbi Koenigsberg is an instructor in the Isaac Breuer College at YU in addition to serving as an administrator overseeing the undergraduate men’s programs and various graduate programs at YU.
Chaya Sima Koenigsberg is a Resident Scholar at the Straus Center. She received her BA in psychology from Yeshiva University’s Stern College for Women and MA and PhD in Jewish philosophy from Yeshiva University’s Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies. Chaya Sima’s doctoral research focused on midrashic esotericism in medieval Jewish thought and her dissertation, “Prayer as a Prism” conceptualized the relationship between the Written and Oral Torah in the thought of R. Eleazar of Worms (The Rokeah). While pursuing her graduate studies, Chaya Sima served as a member of the Judaic studies faculty and 9th grade advisor at Manhattan High School for Girls in NYC and Shevach High School in Queens, NY. She holds a teaching certificate from Michlalah Jerusalem College for Women in Israel, completed the Educational Leadership Advancement Initiative program through the Lookstein Center at Bar-Ilan University, and is currently a Visiting Research Scholar at Fordham University. Chaya Sima’s lectures and courses for the Straus Center bridge her love of Torah and interests in philosophy, art, and music.
Shea Rubinstein has over twenty years of professional singing and performing experience. At age seventeen, Shea was appointed his first position as official Bal Tefilah of Congregation Agudath Achim in Bradley Beach, New Jersey. In the next two decades, he held the position of Baal Tefillah at Ohel Moshe in Brooklyn,Congregation Bais Yehuda in Flatlands, New York. Cong. Ramat in Mexico City and in several hotels Shea has a tenor vioce and has studied voice and Chazzanus under the tutelage of Cantor Moshe Cohen and Cantor Weinberger, among others. He has given and appeared in concerts throughout the United States, in Israel and in Italy. He has had the privilege of entertaining senators, attorney generals, and various other influential elected officials and religious leaders. Shea performs Carlebach-style Shabbosim and Kumzit’s on a regular basis. He is sought after at weddings, sheva brachos and other simchas throughout the country.Shea’s music video, “Window in Heaven’” has been viewed over 200,000 times .
